Sylvania is a city within Lucas County, Ohio with a population of 19,021 as of 2022. Its name comes from the Latin word “sylva”, paying homage to dense forests that historically existed in the area. Its economy is continuing to grow and is mostly comprised of commercial and retail services, with little manufacturing occurring in the area.

Sylvania Chamber of Commerce –  The Sylvania Chamber of Commerce has over 500 members and is an important part of bringing potential visitors, residents, and businesses to the area. Many events are hosted here throughout the year for the community, and it is a great place to network.

Lathrop House – This historical location was the home to the abolitionists Lucian and Larissa Lathrop, who were famous for their assistance in the Underground Railroad. Visitors can visit the house to learn about their involvement in the Underground Railroad as well as to get a glimpse of what houses from the era looked like.

The Historical Society – At this location, visitors can speak directly to archivists to understand community and regional history firsthand. One can learn about big events that occurred in the region during the past and view historical photographs and newspapers.
