Munster is located in Lake County, Indiana, and is part of the Chicago Metropolitan area. Munster was originally inhabited by the Native Pottawatomi people. The land that is now known as Munster was then claimed by the French, then by the British later, and eventually by the newly found United States of America. Before long, Jacob Munster, a dutch native, created a post office. The town came to be known by the founder of the post office, Munster.
